Welcome to Macbed’s new apps introduction column. Here, we will introduce to you the latest and excellent Mac App. We also hope that you can share with us in the comment section the applications that you are interested in or enjoy using. Here are this week’s recommended new apps. The recommended apps will mainly be free apps.
1. Cap – Free alternative to Screen Studio
Cap is the open source alternative to Loom. It’s a video messaging tool that allows you to record, edit and share videos in seconds.
Cap is currently in public beta, and is available for macOS and Web. Windows and Linux builds are in development.
2.NearDrop – An unofficial Google Nearby Share/Quick Share app for macOS
NearDrop is a partial implementation of Google’s Nearby Share/Quick Share for macOS.
Limitations
- Wi-Fi LAN only. Your Android device and your Mac need to be on the same network for this app to work. Google’s implementation supports multiple mediums, including Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, some kind of 5G peer-to-peer connection, and even a WebRTC-based protocol that goes over the internet through Google servers. Wi-Fi direct isn’t supported on macOS (Apple has their own, incompatible, AWDL thing, used in AirDrop). Bluetooth needs further reverse engineering.
- Visible to everyone on your network at all times while the app is running. Limited visibility (contacts etc) requires talking to Google servers, and becoming temporarily visible requires listening for whatever triggers the “device nearby is sharing” notification.
3.Quill – a lightweight app for taking quick notes.
Quill is a lightweight app for taking quick notes that runs in your menu bar. It supports the following features and functionality:
- Create notes (up to 800 pages worth!) at virtually any time while using almost any application
- Create notes in a variety of font styles and sizes
- Create notes using different color schemes and window sizes
- See a running count of the words, characters, and lines entered for your notes
- Built-in keyboard shortcuts to insert the current date, time, dividing lines, and even bullets for a To-do list
- Print and export your notes from the menu bar
- Choose to automatically start the app whenever your Mac boots up
- Fast and compact; no 30+ MB application baggage
- Compatible with macOS Big Sur, Monterey, Ventura, Sonoma, and Sequoia
- Universal binary: runs on both Intel and Apple Silicon CPUs
4.Hyperduck – Send links from your iOS & visionOS devices to your Mac
For example, share a link from Safari on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro, and have it open in the default browser on your Mac moments later.
You can send a link even if your iOS/visionOS device and/or Mac is offline. The link will be sent and received the next time the devices are online. The link will never be lost.
5.Pure Paste – Paste as plain text by default
Pure Paste lets you paste as plain text by default. It sits in the menu bar and clears formatting (fonts, colors, bold, links, tables, etc.) from the text you copy. However, it does not touch unrelated content like files, images, etc. It also ignores content copied from password managers.
You can also choose to manually clear formatting whenever needed instead of automatically.
